Sterile and strong custom-shaped tubes for healthcare products and laboratory equipment
Stainless steel and copper-based components for pioneering healthcare design
Timeless are proud of the varied projects that we have worked on within the healthcare industry – from creating a tubing component for a wheelchair-lifting mechanism to liquid-dispensing laboratory equipment.
We understand how important precision and reliability is in this vital sector, which is why our clients trust us to fabricate tubes with a fastidious attention to quality.
Surgical grade stainless steel
We use stainless steel tubing for products in this sector, where hygiene is a major requirement, because it offers inert, easy-to-clean surfaces. Stainless steel is also corrosion resistant, and has low-maintenance costs.
We often form tube from 316L (1.4404) steel, which withstands more industrial solvents and chlorides than some other stainless steels. However, for mobility equipment and staircases in healthcare environments, 304L (1.4301) is sufficient.
When sterile conditions are necessary, such as manufacturing for pharmaceuticals, we can electropolish the tubing to create an ultra-hard, protective finish, which allows for complete sterility.
Antimicrobial copper and cupronickel
There is growing interest from the healthcare sector for metal surfaces within hospital settings to be be made from copper and copper alloys such as cupronickel to prevent cross-contamination of pathogens that cause healthcare-associated infections. Increasing bodies of research show how copper and its alloys have impressive antimicrobial properties as they effectively ‘kill’ microorganisms such as bacteria, viruses and fungi quicker than other surfaces by neutralising them, or at the very least inhibiting their growth. This can help to slow the spread of viruses such as Covid-19 and influenza A, as well as dangerous bacterial infections.
If you are seeking to replace existing furniture and fittings such as grab rails, handrails, hospital bed rails, IV poles and arm rests on visitors’ chairs with copper, brass or cupronickel, please speak to our engineers. They will ensure that the tubing is ergonomically and structurally sound, making the application more comfortable for the end user. Timeless Tube welcomes any opportunity to fabricate prototypes for this crucial new field of research.
Pioneering design
Innovations in this sector have a major impact on the well-being of humans, which is why our engineers love to work on new design challenges in this field. We can customise our tubing sizes so that they fit your medical device, mobility aid or health product.
Please contact our engineers to see how they can help with prototypes and new developments.
Mobility and rehab assistance
Our shaped tubing is ergonomically superior to round tubing – mainly because it is easier for people to grasp it without their hand slipping around the tube.
The D-shaped railing – often referred to as handrail or handrail capping – is especially useful in environments where people may require grab rails.
It is comfortable to grip, and easy to clean. Our classic oval tube offers advantages over round tubing, and is popular for adapted furniture and other specialist mobility equipment, such as support rails on beds.
